This week The_Pro_Dad makes an attempt at audio story telling. The topic of this Soundcloud clip is screen time & how much is too much screen time? My daughter is a toddler and loves watching the Netflix titles Mother Goose Club, Word Party, and of course Baby Shark available on Amazon. The goal this week was to analyze credible articles available on the internet to determine if there are any known long term effects associated with allowing my daughter to watch the ocassional 1-2 hours of screen time. Here at The_Pro_Dad, we like to keep an open mind, so if you come across any science-based articles on the subject, please feel free to place links in the comment section below. In the words of Sir Francis Bacon, “Knowledge is power.”
With a simple google search of “screen time recommendations” we encountered thousands of results. To determine which articles are credible I contacted my wife, a registered nurse, and the following seemed the most credible:
Below is an outline of the process involved in creating this Soundcloud audio clip. The tools involved in creating this draft include:
MacBook Pro 2018 https://www.apple.com/us/search/macbook-pro?src=globalnav
Logic Pro X https://www.apple.com/logic-pro/
Adobe Audition https://www.adobe.com/products/audition.html
Shure SM57 Microphone http://www.shure.com/americas/products/microphones/sm/sm57-instrument-microphone
Before you can begin: Organize
I used a piece of paper and a pen to organize a rough outline of the audio story.
Step 1: Capture article summary by audio recording
To capture the audio, I utilized Logic Pro X with my MacBook Pro. The sound waves were captured using a Shure SM57 Microphone with a Presonus Audiobox 2.
Step 2: Add additional multi-tracks
An audio track was created for each article summary. individual tracks were created for the Intro, article 1, article 2, article 3, summary of articles, conclusion, and an outro with music.
Step 3: Edit each track
After summarizing the articles by audio track, the sum of all articles was well above 3 minutes. To meet the timeline I needed to edit all unessential words and dead air.
Step 4: Bounce from Logic X & upload audio to Adobe Audition
After editing each track, a new FINAL track was created to consolidate all edited audio. Several multitrack recordings have now been consolidated to a music track and a talk track under the allotted 3 minute time limit.
Step 4 Cont: Create a multitrack session in Adobe Audition
To further edit the audio draft, the final two tracks (music & talk) were uploaded into Adobe Audition.
Step 5: Fade in/Fade Out & create a mixdown.
Step 6: Upload to Soundcloud & embed the link into WordPress
